Fightin’ Bigger Folks Week 4

This is a dirty little fighting trick that can seal a victory (depending on what your opponent is wearing).  Best to check your outfit before leaving the house.

I know we've talked about this technique a bit, but I want to be sure that you are dropping this inconceivably powerful strike at every stance closing, U-Slipping, or lateral moving opportunity that you have.

This will touch on some of the best ways to use this kick within your existing strategy.

Having identified a few roundhouse errors as people who bought this course submit videos of themselves training,  I figured it was about time that you all develop the ability to shatter people's ribs during a kick.

This video will give you the adjustments that you need, AND aid in the angle taking process.

You're going to be building all of these nice weapons... I bet you're going to want to use them.  Your shins better be ready to take that type of impact.

Every time you smash your shin into that guys leg, you’re winning the fight a little bit more, so you need to be doing this with every opportunity you get.

But your other leg might get bored...

The lead leg roundhouse (the leg in front, or as a righty... my left) is an amazing weapon, it's only hindrance being that it's so close to our opponent... and we're trying to be that close.

The easiest remedy to this situation is to use a switch kick... which when applied to our chosen position of sorts, has some fantastic applications.

This one video will teach you way more than you need to know about switch kicks, but all of it will have powerful implications in the game of using your legs to hurt people.

Once you have kicks from both sides, the most obvious thing to do is tie it together with the rest of the crap that we know... in a way which spikes our overall spectacularness.

Start using low attacks to punctuate your existing combinations, and you're entire style of stand up fighting will become exponentially more effective.

This video has a couple of important technical details about adding kicks to our combinations that can really help you when flowing from upper-body to lower-body attacks.

This video could theoretically be mindblowing... but at the very least it will nicely tie together every standup premise that we've covered... to start bringing your strategy full circle.

If you think about it, the stand-up fighting game is stressful. There’s a lot of very permanent damage that can be done to one’s face in a very short amount of time. Also, you can be CRUSHING the guy and he might just catch one lucky punch. Now his size advantage packs an extra wallop, so that punch might be enough to induce a nap.

An incredibly appealing alternative to the standup fighting game is to simply use positioning and your attack-angle to make takedowns simple. The program we just covered has gotten the hard part out of the way. If you build a good takedown and make it mechanical, you can have THE GREATEST ADVANTAGE IN THE WORLD:

Being. On. Top.

Screw having a size disadvantage and range issues… take the guy DOWN. If you have little Jiu Jitsu skill and he has none, you’re practically guaranteed to win.

In order to build your takedowns, build your “ground and pound”, and make submission moves completely second nature, please move on to…

Key Takeaways:

When executing a Straight Slip:

Combine:

A Step in any direction
a Shoulder Pop
...and an Oblique Crunch

...and you have a Straight Slip.  This punch will make either Straight Punch (right or left), and will also make either Uppercut miss.

When executing an Uppercut:

Pop your shoulder to get power and then, you can fire the:

Up-Jab
Traditional Uppercut
The "Uppergut"... (the straight uppercut to the body

The Up-Jab is your long 'pushing punch', if you aren't very close.  Fire a punch to full arm extension with your palm up, trying to knock the guys head backwards off of his shoulders.

The Uppercut is a 'pulling punch' which should start with an elastic chest pop, and be followed by a 'rip cord' like pulling action, thus launching the guys head out of his hands for 'juggling'.

The Uppergut is fired straight ahead by leaving the punch behind  and projecting it forward with your hip.

When executing a Rear Slip:

Combine:

A step backwards,
a slight torso lean backwards,
and tucking your chin backward, thus 'giving yourself a double chin'...

and you have a Rear Slip.

You can crunch your obliques to one side or the other with your rear slip, if you want to pull your head to one side of a punch or the other.

To throw the Fadeaway Hook:

Start by executing a Rear Slip, but also draw back your lead shoulder.

(This is like loading up the 'ball and chain' so you can unwind it.)

As you drag your lead foot to its replacement position, you fire your Fadeaway Hook.

You can pivot your rear leg back 'behind' the position of your lead foot, to create a different angle on your opponent.

If the following doesn’t make sense to you, watch this video on Slipping to the Left on your Left vs Right Foot.

Straight Slips

On these slips, you will move only one of your feet.  You will bounce that foot immediately back to your stance.

Your will be transferred to the foot on the same side that your head is slipping.  So, if your is moving to the left, your weight will be transferred into the left foot.

50 Straight Slips, Head Moving To the Left, Stepping on your Left Foot and bouncing it back to your stance.

50 Straight Slips, Head Moving To the Left, Stepping on your Right Foot and bouncing it back to your stance.

50 Straight Slips, Head Moving To the Right, Stepping On your Left Foot and bouncing it back to your stance.

50 Straight Slips, Head Moving To the Right, Stepping On your Right Foot and bouncing it back to your stance.

More Straight Slips

On the following slips, you will move BOTH of your feet, thus bringing your entire stance underneath you... instead of just bouncing the foot back to your stance.

If you are slipping to the LEFT, you will take a LEFT then RIGHT replacement step.  (Don't "Overdrag" your step.  Keep a nice wide base)!

50 Straight Slips, Head Moving To the Left, Stepping on your Right Foot and bringing your Left foot in as a replacement step.

50 Straight Slips, Head Moving To the Right, Stepping On your Left Foot and bringing your Right foot in as a replacement (aka drag) step.
