I did something like that once… guy reached out, I backed up and moved to the side, and bounced him off a large city tree container. He lost his balance, and as he was falling, I caught him with a short straight kick to the jaw. One down… five to go. (didnt end up having to fight all of them)
there is a real karate style that uses that (kata like) advance…i forget the name but it is used in the movie/ BEST of the BEST/ in the tournament scene (ERIC ROBERTS) playing as alex grady. But it looks a bit less tweaked in the movie/more traditional.
Footwork wins fights (wasn’t that a book title)? Aggressor’s right rear foot is on the ball, not
flat footed? Body weight on front left? (which will trap your leg for a thigh kick), he needs
to watch more muay thai videos! Always bouncing front leg, weight on rear!
Thanks for the video!…Half luck & half skill (quick pattern reading & reaction)…Important to study the center of gravity (static & dynamic) and how to leverage for both offense and defense.
I wonder how much good watching videos like yours do without sparring. My guess is that understanding basic concepts does some good – or at least offers a modest improvement over no conceptual understanding.

I wince at the times I could have been swept like that! Phew! That was movie-choreograph perfect and clean.

A taller person has the advantage over a smaller person when it comes to sweeping his legs
a taller fighter with long legs, has the advantage over a shorter stocky fighter when it comes to sweeping the legs, he has more leverage

I’ve always believed that kicking that front foot as their stepping in would be a good move in a street fight. When their falling… take your pick.
