  1. Few thoughts on this..

    – He could have defended himself differently. The Ivan Drago haymaker was not necessary.
    – He was surrounded. An unaware if one of them had a weapon. Can’t blame him for defending himself and feeling an eacalated level of threat..especially with his family here.
    – The girl has no fear of getting hit..because she knows she can come in throwing any punch she wants because the unwritten rule is..men can’t hit women…period.
    – Women are not pushovers. We have extremely tough, skilled, strong women in MMA/UFC.
    – I wonder if she runs into the Demagorgon in the Shadow Realm and needs the Stranger Things kids to find her and wake her up.

    – Trav..you are right. There are mitigating circumstances in every situation. As the father of two daughters it sickens me to see this. But I was not in his shoes. Good share.

  2. Wow, so many legal and moral experts in the comments section. I’m baffled how people are so naive to sit there and criticize a situation they clearly haven’t been in.

A threat is not established by what genitalia you have. If you intend on doing harm to someone, especially when your thug friends might jump into the mix, you deserve to taste the pavement.

The video is too short to know the full details on the story but in this day and age where women want to act like men, they must also accept the consequences.

  3. Good Shot. Brats today think they can screw with anyone and suffer no consequences. To hell with that., I don’t pick on females but if one gets rough with me, I will retaliate.

    • The way I see it that I would not attack a guy twice my size, because I’d be KTFO. But girls, simply by virtue of being female, sometimes think they can try to physically intimidate a much larger and stronger man because they’re safe from being punched.

That said, he REALLY smacked her one, and maybe could have followed a less vicious course of action. There were no winners here, kids.

  4. Wow, what an unfortunate position to be in.

Having no other info and just going off what I saw, sure he smashed the hell out of her but from a self defence perspective, he probably did the right thing. Surrounded by a co-ordinated gang, pushed one away to create distance and when she rushed back at him, he struck. You don’t think she pushed him as hard as she could? He didn’t wind up and there wasn’t much follow through so I don’t think he actually put a lot of force into it, she was just completely unprepared for it. Plus it looks like it worked, the rest of the ran….looks like its true what they say about bullies….

As a new father myself, I know my perspective has changed a LOT and would be very different to myself of 2 years ago pre fatherhood….you do get very VERY protective of your kid/s and I can imagine if my family/kid was surrounded by a group (even girls) that were effectively attacking me already, I’d probably do something similar to make sure my family is safe.

    1. They are old enough to know they should not be doing this, they were clearly using the fact they were youngish and girls in the belief he wouldn’t defend his family and to see what they could get away with.

    2. I guarantee if those girls didn’t taunt, and lets face it, physically assault the guy, I REALLY doubt he would ever have just clocked her for no reason. They instigated or at least elevated it to a physical confrontation by pushing him.

    3. How was he to know this obviously very aggressive gang didn’t have knives or other weapons? If it turns out she or some of them had knives would his punch be justified?

    3. He did shove her away first and she marched straight back in directly at him, thats when he hit her.

    4. Something tells me she will never do anything like that again….maybe he made the world a slightly better place?

He will probably get smashed in court but I feel sorry for him, he never would have been in that situation if they didn’t start it.

  5. I DONT KNOW WHAT HAPPENED B4 HE PUSHED HER THEN HIT HER…. WHAT I DO KNOW,IS IF WOMEN SPITS ON ME, THROWS A DRINK ON ME, OR HITS ME SHE BETTER WATCH THE FUCK OUT…..

  6. If nothing else, the utter difference of opinion on this page is pretty interesting.

I see the decision making as falling into 2 different categories:

    1. What is the appropriate action so that you make it home alive
    2. What are the legal consequences of that decision

Clearly the calculus of ‘making it home alive’ takes precedence. It just sucks to find yourself in a situation where to do that, you might be taking an action that will result in jail time.

Fuck if I know what I would have done in this situation. In general I’m pretty good with diffusing tension with teens, but context is everything. We have no idea if this dude started it AND escalated it or what. Or what part of town this took place, etc. There is so little to go off, and too many factors.

Assuming that he neither started it NOR escalated (which I find unlikely), his response seems appropriate for an ‘out of the blue’ mob attack. If he started it AND escalated (my best guess), then his response seems pretty disproportionate. And again, he lived to make it home. I wouldn’t want to be the guy who didn’t take appropriate action only to get knifed because I misjudged.

Due to the complexity of the situation and the unreliability of the footage, it’s just so hard to say. I really wish I could have seen the buildup and aftermath.

Thank you Trav! Great post for a challenging topic.

  7. I watched this 5 times over and laughed about 4 times. To the point now: Watching this video from where it is filmed, I would have not hit the girl. His actions are a bit too much. Now, with other comments from here though – we don’t know what happened before that. For example: An older guy tries to sell his cell phone in the mall to younger guy. The younger guy takes the phone, basically steals it and runs away screaming first: Pedophile please help me!” People who don’t know what is happening will initially believe the thief. So in defence to this guy we may say that the events lead him to a high emotion state where he felt threatened – he felt like a lion attacked by hyenas. Well if he would have done this without his family beside him, I would have said he is in trouble.

  8. Sorry..if I’m alone …a group of girls can get away with all the pushing and asualting they want.. I might even run..but if my kids are with me your very lucky to come out alive.. my job is to protect My family… there no parent in the world that will feel different.. not taking out a threat and risking your wife and kids safety.. is something you will never forgive yourself for..
