My Sensei is teaching me offensive and defensive knife technics. Those are difficult enough and hurt enough with practice knives. I can see the knife coming. To do this with no visual input has to take some intense training and concentration. Getting hit on the head with a practice pole still has to hurt.
It gets better too! I have a friend that recently passed this test. But, he also used his vacation days, paid for an airline ticket, and sat in a cramped coach seat to Japan and back. Just to give a guy an opportunity to smack him in the head with a stick! True dedication! That’s how ninjas roll.
In military we spent days at a time in the bush. You could indeed feel when something was not right. I wouldn’t be the one to let someone stand behind me with a stick and knock the crap out of me if I didn’t move in time. Better things to practice and do. But I believe your conscience is the compass of God that teaches right from wrong among other things. My conscience would tell me to sit and watch in that classroom.
Intuition is great, but I’m not sure I’ll drop to my knees and close my eyes the next time I’m in the presence of a bar fight, to concentrate on dodging boots and beer bottles, instead of using to commotion to calmly leave without settling the tab.
In fourth grade my daughter did a science fair project to test Cleve Backsters theory. She did a few hours of research on it. He was a nut. Plants are not psychic.
Think about it. Plants evolved over billions of years. What evolutionary advantage would come from the ability of a plant to psychically read the minds of humans. There is nothing the plants could do with that information. They don’t even have any sort of a brain to store or process the information. What would Cleve’s electrical signal do to benefit the plant? Nothing
What is really fascinating is Cleve. He spent a good part of his life truly believing that plants were reading his mind. And he wanted to hurt them. That is a special kind of crazy.
I’m another non-believer…..doubtful you could walk around 24/7 with all senses firing…waiting for an attack….no way to be ready for a sucker punch…if you are ready, then its not really a sucker punch…..(unless you are referring to the suckers getting hit on the head with a stick)

A superb book, The Gift of Fear was written many years ago that touches on this mental sense. It was a best seller and yet seems forgotten.
Not buying this…….

This is No1 Bullshit!
“… training the15th Dans…” – can you hear me roll my eyes?
“… can ‘sense’ it …” If he believed in it, he wouldn’t have used air quotes.
And I agree with Trav: letting someone take an unopposed swing at my head seems non-sensical.
