I love it, I’m glad you highlighted a weapons integrated approach. After all, this is self defense you’re discussing, NOT traditional martial arts. A hand gun is a neutralizer that is a last resort, but one that in the US is very much a reality. I’ve got my Concealed carry and so do many people I know. For those smaller individuals, those that live in urban areas, and those who most likely will never dedicated the years it can take it have the skills and emotional acclimation to intelligently react to threats…. This is solid advice.
Sweet, I like the self defense focused techniques, it makes sense and honestly if your life is on the line my gut feeling is you won’t be using the whole “curriculum” of the fighting arts anyway.
If time is short and the perp is nearly on you, then start shooting as soon as you clear the holster and the gun is pointing downstream. The first shots may hit the perp’s pelvis, but who cares at that point?
Yup. Hit those hips and he’ll go down like a sack of bricks. Bonus: you’re throwing lead downward instead of into the car (or that 7yr old kid at the Slurpee machine 😥) behind him. Bonus 2: he’ll fold 99.999% of the time, and now his head is in the line of fire. Why is this important? Body armor is out there… but it doesn’t cover the hips.
Alternative suggestion for the ladies who carry in a purse. Choose a small revolver and keep your hand on it when walking through questionable areas. You can discharge all five or six rounds through the purse without jamming (unlike a semi, which will stovepipe after the first).
Well, in your video example I doubt there was more than pointing. If the distance is such that aiming is required, likely there will be time to pull-and-present more traditionally. However, a lady could be prepared to repel a point-blank attacker without exposing herself to the crime of brandishing in the event her apprehension is misplaced.
My wife actually has a purse that is designed to be fired through the purse if required, has a nifty opening that looks like a seam that allows access to the pistol, which is in a holster pointing forward. But as you pointed out, very close range only until you draw it.
The hammer could get caught so be careful with which pistol you use. There are revolvers that hide the hammer though (hammerless). Paul Harrell has a great video about shooting from under the sheets of a bed that would be illustrative.
Revolvers can jam from a purse or pocket too, unless they are of a shrouded-hammer or bobbed-hammer design. These are the only guns that cannot snag a piece of material as they snap forward and place it in between themselves as the part of the ammunition …the primer…that goes bang, and fail to fire.
The vast majority of revolvers are not of this design, b.t.w.

Your grip needs a little work but I like the technique. Oh and your zipper is down bro.
You’re probably right. This one manages to work for me, but what am i doing wrong, and what are the consequences? What would you suggest?
Umm. It looks like pants are having wardrobe misfunction. Zipper is gaping.
How dare you use personification upon my zipper.
Or maybe that’s just a verb.
It’s easy to dare from the safety of the internet. nanana.

Actually, the pelvis is a devastating place to get shot. Major arteries, bone fragments, etc.

Th as the kind of the point of the entire video. The kick maintains distance until you can draw/ready your firearm.
I have better aim when I angle my foot on a 45 with the front kick. Then it can automatically change into an oblique easily.
I respect and like it.

Interesting suggestion, assuming accuracy is never in question!

Great Lesson Trav!
Actually, in non carry “totalitarian” zones, couldn’t you draw your knife?
Exactly.
Either that or some OC spray, harsh language, or a social worker.
