  1. As per usual, what seems like “obvious” technical instruction seems new to me after 40 years in the game. Sure I’ve done front kicks forever. Starting back in the late 80s with Thai Boxing seminars when Thai Boxing was still exotic. Etc. And, Trav’s technical instruction explains the most critical elements of a move in the fewest yet most picturesque way possible.

  2. Hi Trav, I found through my good friend Pat Kilchermann. Thanks for the great content. One thing I would add and like to get your thoughts on, if I may, is…..if I/we wanted to remain a bit more covert with the front kick, how do you recommend executing the kick without telegraphing your hands and arms first in a larger movement. Can it be done as effectively if the hands are up at chest level with a posture of “hey, I don’t want any trouble”, then kick?

    • Yup, that works. The two main points of telegraph in a front kick are the ‘entry step’ if you need to step your front foot closer to the man to get into front kick range, and the chambering of the kick itself. If you just focus on making those two movements as snappy and quick as possible, your hands can be anywhere you want them to be.

    • At 80 years old, you can build a front kick. Start by standing on one leg on a balance pad, and work your way up.

      Send the kick knee height if you want to make it a bit easier!
