    • Not sleeping, from what I recall though back then in the mid 90s or so, you didn’t really see a lot of that, specifically a ground and pound that I recall. It might’ve just been unusual for him. John McCarthy is a good rough though.

  1. I think Big John has said that the very early UFC’s did not allow for the ref to stop the fight. The rules were either, the fighter quits, or, his corner throws in the towel.

Not a good place to be for an incoherent fighter, a ref without authority to stop the fight, or a proud corner.

  2. Although a very good martial artist and fighter he kept the barrage up a tad too long in my estimation. Hopefully it will come back on him.

  3. Yes THIS is the most devastating ground and pound that I can remember…except if you count kicks/stomps to a grounded opponent. In that case I recall a fight from superbrawl II in Hawaii. The fight was Jay Palmer a TKD guy vs Maurice Corty a Brazilian BJJ guy. Palmer got him down and Corty reached for him and Palmer grabbed his arm and pulled up on it while repeatedly stomping his head….absolutely SCARY AF to watch.
