  1. Trav, you realize all the “slipping” punches that get to the takedowns are taken from traditional Wing Chun.

  2. There’s a guy who pulls it of in Jiu-Jitsu/submission grappling tournaments. I can’t remember his name, but I believe he’s affiliated with 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu. The way he grips the wrist he refers to as the Burrito Wrap, or something like that

  3. Hey, Yeah, the CatchJitsu guy. Been subbed to his channel for a few years now. I definitely don’t agree with him on everything, but he has a rather unique perspective and I’ve certainly learned more than a handful of techniques from his vids. Interesting use here of a technique I had written off as ineffective, I’ll have to re-visit and re-assess. Always helpful to be reminded how little I know, and how often even that is wrong. Lol.

    • Interesting blend, your word “Catch-Jitsu”? Obviously taken from Catch Wrestling & Jiu-Jitsu. This is the fist time I’ve seen it? I’m curious about its origin? Is it a word from you originally? Or is it borrowed?
Next question, do you mind if I borrow it?
PS. I realize I modified a little bit. Lol

  4. I trained Aikido for 40 plus years, in Shingu, Japan traditionally and then with Seagal way back when he had a dojo in Osaka and also in the US. You are right about the typical American Aikido knife techniques. I know of one Aikido black belt who was killed in NYC because he thought he “knew” how to fight against a knife. What I learned in Japan were more armbar style techniques though I would still get cut. The two times I got into knife fights in Japan, one I used a barstool like a lion tamer (yeah not very Aiki) and the other I actually did use an Aikido technique and bounced the guys’ head off the bumper of a car (I will admit he was pretty drunk so I had an advantage). BTW a couple of the moves the guy uses in the above video are more related to a nikkyo wristlock (makes the opponent’s arm like a snake) and a finger lock that Seagal liked rather than kote gaishi though you are right most are kote gaishi. I wrestled a Russian Sambo wrestler in Japan that had just come from training in Russia and built like the guy in the video and he arm barred me off a similar wrist twist. Great stuff Trav!! I really like how you are seeking what works and not what youtube and other “false” masters try and sell people.

    • Finally, someone who has at least trained in or somewhere near japan talking about using Aikido. Thank you, Robb. You’ve added a little sanity to the forum of Westerners commenting on Aikido technique.

  5. Hell, if that’s the kinda crap that’s out there I’M starting my own style called ‘Talk Your Way Out of It’: One class, practicing and rehearsing apologies, explanations, and conflict resolution techniques ie L.A.S.T. & C.O.R.E. (Listen, Apologize, Solve, & Thank, Clarify, Options, Resolve, & End’. Each participant gets a handy gift card (for giving to the guy u pissed off) and a pair of sneakers (for fleeing). $95.
