First, I think this guy is only going off the ad that Trav put out (not the whole knife defense series) and probably feels personally attacked because he feels like he falls under the category of fakies. Having watched Funker’s video and training with the knife defense videos, they are in essence saying similar things. You need to drill. You need to work on foot work. You need to get used to dynamic fighting. Work on the basics. Now, the two teachers are teaching for different environments and styles, so to speak. Statistically speaking, as a civvy, you are more likely to encounter an unexperienced knife fighter than an experienced one, unlike SWAT or military. Same with guns. Most people who own guns are actually drastically under trained with them. In terms of the styles, Trav focuses on the basics (and a little more for those willing) that will keep you alive and will increase your chance of survival using statistics and analysis of data he has available to him. It is a deep analysis of what is being taught and tries to apply them as they would be executed and then experiments to find a better solution if needs be. Police, military, etc. use a more aggressive style, because it is about apprehension/termination,where time may not be an option and the chances of multiple targets are higher. However, they can benefit from outside analysis and scrutiny. If something can be improved, then improve it. Ego is one of the great distractions and destroyers of progress and cooperation. There is an Israeli guy who questioned the way CQB is being done and is conducting studies to find ways to improve the survival of Police/Military clearing rooms. He has caught a lot of flak just because his techniques are different than what everyone has been taught prior and he feels things could be done more effectively. Also, I feel like knife defense is becoming a repetition of what happened with karate. The original stuff was quite effective. Once people became more exposed to it through media, it was exploited by less than honorable people who realized they could make bank off of it, leading to karate being watered down and laughable. Now most people don’t really take it seriously, pissing off a lot of people who actually care about it and have trained through years. My advice Trav is that for the purpose of perhaps improving techniques or maybe coming up with a defense program for those who are more likely to encounter trained fighters, see what this guy knows. Get info and data. Expand your knowledge source. See if he is a legit source or if it’s Mcdojo all over again. As an internet entrepreneur, your products will immediately come under scrutiny as one of those quick fixes, no training scams, especially if it is an add on Youtube. If you wish to avoid this, maybe build some bridges with those who can provide info and get you with those who might be able to legitimize your findings and could recommend you to other clientele.
After watching the video I don’t really feel like ‘Funker’ is calling you out so much as he’s calling out the fact that Trav’s calling out ‘Funker’s’ technique/system as ineffective. And let’s face it Trav you’re video is pretty aggressive with its criticisms lol. That being said Travs system in my opinion is far superior to any ‘flow drill/technique’. The expert in the video says most people can learn the flow in an hour but then describes the technique as looking easy but then says it’s hard to grasp even for experienced martial artists. Seems like big contradiction to me. But anyways Trav I would go with a more tempered response and not necessarily come out with all guns blazing, not yet anyways lol.
Ah ha! They’re using the double MacGuffin. By making it look like YOU dislike flow techniques, people have to come to them for that. After they corner the flow technique market, they and their minions can then kill everyone with just their knives (‘cuz their Moms won’t let them have guns). So if Trav maintains his training videos, he will save the world. Obviously.

But i like flow techniques! I literally never made this argument.
His flow technique appears to be very similar to your hook and slip D-line concept as well.
Exactly right!!!

It’s devilishly brilliant. And I literally do flow techniques on a daily basis… the whole thing is preposterous.
Muscle memory
Anyone else reminded of the Bob Jackson Jim Carrey skit? https://youtu.be/5irB_ugO_S4
Knowledge Is Power If It’s The RIGHT Kind Of Knowledge Coupled With Practice…!!
This can only be resolved by a knife fight to the death using real bananas. (Peeled of course. We’re not barbarians.)

It’s hard to understand that guy. I don’t think it should be that hard to understand what he saying but it seems very cryptic
