  1. Funker Tac is for wannabes. Gunfighters and knife fighters with no actual experience in a hun or knife fight. I.e both Marcaida and Zero are fucking charlatans. Please take them phonies up on their challenge to you!

  2. The most sobering advice I’ve seen on knife attacks is that from Rory Miller: https://chirontraining.blogspot.com/2007/09/why-i-dont-pretend-to-teach-knife.html

“This is the title of a seminar that I’ve done a couple of times over the last few years and I recently read someone describing ‘safe and efficient’ knife disarms. It made me a little ill and a little scared that some people believe in this, believe it enough to teach it and can find students naive enough to swallow it.”

Knife training is scary, and because of this it’s fun, but I’m not going to kid myself that I’ve got more than 1% extra chance of surviving a knife attack through it. Not being there in the first place – or getting out of there as soon as a knife attack seems plausible – seem to be the only ways of keeping the odds of serious injury acceptably low.

    • Thanks for the link. Interesting read. On the subject of violence, Miller is frankly the most realistic I have ever read. So many other “experts” come across like man-children with martial arts concepts that are straight out of a super hero movie.

    • …yup, had that experience in college..had a knife on my throat from the back..thinking it was one of my buddies as I am nearing our campus, I instinctively grabbed the hand and faced the “prankster” with a swift turn…when I realized I don’t know this dude, I immediately turned the other way and ran as fast as I could!…i’d rather endure being labelled as a sissy than suffer in the hospital bed, or worst, be 6 feet under the ground.

  3. Naughty Trav! How dare you do exactly what the nice man with the knife says and be analytical!!! Don’t you know that these people have been training special forces for YEARS?! Would they do that if they didn’t know what they were talking about?! NO!!! Bad Trav! You sit down and think about what you’ve done! Making the poor SWAT trainer cry! For shame!!!! ; )

  4. Hahahaha … this is amazing. Dude calls out your video, and then proceeds to show 9 minutes of material that has nothing to do with your video. Let’s be real, he’s probably just desperate for clicks and needed to ride your lovely coattails.

Oh, and they also can’t keep their camera in focus. Aaaaand they used the exact same statement at 7m:26s and again at 8m:18s. Was the editor day drinking?

  5. that was interesting it seemed legit. i feel i’m to old to start this stuff though i’m 50. I think i would just run away instead seems more logical.

    • I started training Krav Maga, including knife (single and dual weilding) and sticks, at age 69 (turned 70 last Sunday.) My instructor is legit, trained in Israel and has trained commandos there. Is it easy? Hell no! Am I any good? Well I’m sure as shit better than I was a year ago. My point being you’re never too old to learn. The key is finding someone qualified to teach you, and as Funker said, repetition is key. Those flow drills aren’t bullshit. My 2 cents.

  6. I was stabbed once, it sucked (its one of the reason Trav’s programs appealed to me). But, in my experience, when two people have a knife fight–as they do in the funker “drills”–aren’t they supposed to tie their hands together and follow each stab attempt with a flurry of flamboyant dance moves (ala M.J.’s “Bad” video)? Otherwise, stabbings usually occur when one person has a knife and the other does not, I assume.

  7. He’s clearly too cheap to pay for the actual Knife Defense course he’s trying to critique. Or for a decent video editor.

  8. I am not saying that I am more qualified in knife defense but it would not be outrageous to say I was. I was teaching knife before you were an itch in Daddy’s pants.(almost 60) Very few “Teachers” address what happens to your body when your heart rate goes above 180. Because of this, most of these training methods are almost useless. Very few acknowledge that a rabbit does not beat a bear, in a fair fight, no matter how hard you train. Many teachers develop unrealistic expectations from students. I had an athletic scholarship to college and it took me a while to realize what I could do was not realistic for my students to do. I was a deputy and a bouncer. I have disarmed several knife wielding individuals but admit my techniques may not work for a non athletic person with out good reflexes, also my heart rate never goes above 160. I don’t wish to get in an argument, I just hope I gave you something to think about.

    • Agreed, adrenaline dump is a real thing, and must be addressed, when you’re faced with the reality of how it will affect you’re movement when it happens for real.
