Love it, I prefer pain compliance moves but understand that they are not always reliable and do not allow easy disengagement. Push ending the knee is used in military applications to bring down persons.
this information is just what I needed. I see over the last few years, there were people arrested (like the gentleman on that NYC subway) for intervening in an altercation which makes me very leery about engaging in other people’s confrontations. I agree with Travis when he affirms that we don’t know what the situation is when random strangers are mixing it up. Thank you for the posting!!!
I have a vague memory of choking someone out who started a fight with a friend. I feel bad about it now.. jumping in from behind and applying chokehold until limp isn’t very gentlemanly.. it’s kind of a bitch.move. backstabbing
These are the kinds of mistakes that we learn from, Ed. I have also done a lot of things that I’m not proud of. There’s a lot of emotions to sort out when someone you care about and someone on your ‘team’ is at risk. If we evolved to be a tribal species, you would be fighting against evolution in that moment… and there’s not a lot of time to think. With that said, if the thought still bothers you, it can’t hurt to reach out to the guy and apologize… if it’s someone who might be in the ol’ Facebook.
If nothing else, helping someone to understand that your mindset has changed might make you feel better!
Good stuff as usual Trav,
Do you have any preferred move to instantly and (near) perfectly get a solid choke arm in? As you know in dynamic situations it’s tricky. Knife it in or
pull the head back first… Etc. Interested in any innovative ideas you may have and maybe good idea for a short instruction video.
Thanks and Keep being awesome.
Actually, I throw the choke in, usually sorta sliding it under the chin, and if I DON’T get it under the chin, I use my other hand to lift up on the bottom of his nose, or I sorta drive my wrist bone up across the guys upper-gums / bottom of his nose up towards the top of his ear on the other side. So one arm sinks the choke as deep as possible, and the other gets the chin up!
In Vietnam (Saigon), I intervened in a couple fighting. The man was visibly drunk and the woman was yelling at him. When he raised his fist to her, I slipped in a full Nelson. But at that point the woman tried to take advantage of his incapacitation to start hitting him in the face with her shoe, so I had to keep rotating him away from her and putting my back to her.
Not ideal but I eventually got them both to agree to stop assaulting each other physically and left.
I agree totally with Trav on this one. If you throw an arm around someone..lets say was a ranked grappler or wrestler, they will typically have an ingrained reaction to escape that hold. Ask me how i know lol
smart. You are knowledgeable and a cool dude.
Thanks Doug! You da man.

We learn from our mistakes, Ed. I, for one, don’t let the people that I like get hurt… unless they’ve asked to fight.
That’s the thing.. my friend had probably equally provoked the fight.. and now thwt I think harder
I think it was the host of the party that got choked
Yes.. I remember better this morning
I definitely felt bad about how I dropped him

Live and learn buddy… and again, you can always apologize for your transgressions!

great stuff, thanks!

Thank you for such a detailed video!!!
Soccer kicks are real.
Particularly if they have played soccer.
Good but I would NOT go on to my rear and continue choke in any of those situations I want to be on MY FEET
Depends on the situation, but in a crowded space, I agree!
