  1. we live in a linear reality…this is what makes us predictable. When opponents don’t know how to pick your moves , it is confusing. How do you train for something you have never seen ? What is it that most guys have never seen ?…gaps in perception…therefore, there are possibilities you didn’t know were there. An analogy is playing chess and the opponent just smashes your position that you thought was unassailable. Sac , sac ,smash kabash and you are dashed. You couldn’t see it coming. How do you train for the invisible ? You have to train awareness. Meatheads in the gym will not hear this…You need a movement reference that can be linear at the right time but also NOT…which is…circular , moving in circles expanding your perception through a rotational base that is always moving…from loose to tight , small spirals to large ones and back again and up and down as well. Since we are visual creatures , how we use our eyes is critical. We are taught slow reading methods at the public fool system that actually slows down our perception through SACCADIC movement. Richard Bandler of NLP fame had a young girl who could ” see faster ” than practiced martial artists and they couldn’t land a blow on her but she could hit them !…Seeing things as a whole
( called eagle vision ) and balance training while moving in a circular reference frame is a bit of a clue. There are 2 styles that incorporate some of the above…

One thing I have noticed from watching fights , better balanced people usually win while standing up. If you think your balance is good , stand on one leg with your eyes closed…LOL.Bruce Lee said you have to train ALL parts of your body…even the fine muscle and bone articulations in your feet , anlkes , calves and glutes.Perception is about MORE awareness , not less. The bigger the picture you have , the more advantage you have…lotta work
    cheers, all.

  2. Did you notice the legs on the fighter who went down? Huge strength – very stable and hits hard for sure.
The idea that your greatest strength can actually be your greatest ‘weakness’ ?
I could never be taken off my feet . . . in all sports stability and leg strength were always on my side. And so was quickness. One day in a simple workout a regular type person with no particularly noticeable strength or size type attribute did the littlest sweep just from no real intent . . . I went down and from the build up of strength and mind set never to lose my balance I hit so hard I almost knocked my self out! I could literally ski all year and not fall and here this little thing at what must have been the most precise point and the most precise time . . . bam, down. This was a lesson from God. Balance in all things.
I just laughed . . . and he couldn’t really figure out why.
I can even remember the aspect he and I were wrt one another!
If you really want to be good at something, you have to really love what you are doing. If you are doing something correctly that is because you love the moment you are in and love what you are doing that instant more than anything else in the world.

Want to know why Mike Tyson knocks so many people out? Joy. Pure unadulterated joy.

Want to learn how to fight? Love the fight more than anything else in the world and you will be in – exactly in the right spot, at the exactly right time, doing exactly the right thing according to your particular body and the body you are fighting and you will be relaxed and balanced . . . and you will not knock yourself out with your incredible strength!

Black fighter did not necessarily do the knee anticipating that the head would be there – look at his hands. He was afraid of a strike.

    Thanks Trav
