I hate to burst the bubble on this, but it wasn’t a counter. He was setting up and starting the kick beforehand. A lucky coincidence it came together the way that it did.
I respectfully disagree. What he saw in real time, you didn’t see in slow motion replay. He recognized that his opponent was setting up for the spinning back fist and almost instantly went for that kick. He clearly studied his opponent and has practiced that kick until it was instinctual. And he got wicked lucky.
I agree. He knew the guy was doing a spinning back something. As he was throwing a light left jab, he turned his feet to begin his spin. Subtle cues trained fighters can pick up on IMO.
I think you are right, plus if the kick were a bit faster it would have been tangled in the guys arm that was doing the spinning backfist. VERY lucky co-incidence but awesome clip none the less.
Nice shot!!
It looks like he caught him in the lateral neck making it a carotid (fold up like a sack of potatoes) type knockout
His jaw may have made a little trip to the left as well
Great video
As I was reading your newsletter (which I enjoyed) I was thinking of Lomachenko. Im not sure what match it was, but when Loma puts his gloves up like trainers pads and his opponent responds almost reflexively with a straight right which Loma then counters easily. I have to say that is just next level counter striking. It’s such a thing of beauty that he just backs up hands down as if to emphasize the masterly thing he has just done. Lomachenko just understood the years of near operant conditioning his opponent has undertaken and uses his subconscious reflexes against him. Its highlighted in a youtube video called “Lomachenko: The Tricks”
Defiantly nasty! I would probably put that in the “Skluck” (as the gaming streamers would say) category meaning not sure how many times one could or should dip into that well.

Rick spoiled the fun. Fighter woke up, shook his head and said, “where did that come from?!?!”
Ha Ha Ha ! That back fist is illegal in boxing 🥊 , He got KO’ed ! Thanks , Trav. !
it was kick boxing dude
Looks like a capoeira move without a base hand. Had to be improvised. I don’t see how you could practice that move for that specific situation.

Glad I never got a whoppin by one of these when doing ⚔️ Security work 🤪🥊
This was NOT a counterstrike…BOTH strikes began at the same moment.

I like Silia’s counter against Griffin in UFC. A quick pop while he was backing up put Forrest down and out.
