I’ve been telling people for years that this guy is horrible on his feet.
His fans remind me of the dumbass girls I went to high school with that thought guys were cute because they smoked, had tattoos or were in a gang. People celebrating mediocrity.
Yea he’s so tough because he sticks up his middle finger and cusses.
The narrator didn’t even get into how piss poor Nate’s defense is. He doesn’t check kicks, blocks every punch with his face.
That Nate has survived with such bad defense means that the striking of MMA is simply at a low level, otherwise he would have been punished and he would have had to learn to keep his hands up.
Cerrone also clearly shows how horrible his defensive habits are. They both basically use their hands in both offense and defense like untrained street fighters. This is a joke. Untalented hacks.
Trav..this video made my weekend. Watched it twice already. Thanks for the great commentary. Take it from me everyone..give Trav’s courses a try..they are excellent. Learn how to deal with a Sloppy 1-2 with ease.
It’s good to watch this. The question that I wonder about, and I’m sure you do too, is this: Every one of Nate’s opponent’s coaching team could see these weaknesses, so why do they all struggle? I mean, even that fight with RdA strategized leg kicks and in the end went to decision. I can’t imagine they didn’t watch all this tape to exploit the bad. So what is it?
It didn’t seem like any of these guys (except Conor) had an answer to his 1-2. Maybe that’s why his “highlight reel” was dedicated to the 5 or 6 guys who were too dumb to go in there with a legitimate game plan on the feet.
Thanks for the video. I enjoy technique breakdowns they make fighting more fun to watch. I am sure someone else already said this but that’s Clay Guida in at the 4:23 mark not Benson Henderson.
Henderson much like you pointed out did have success throwing a roundhouse kick to Diaz’s head after Diaz did a rear slip that knocked him down. Josh Thompson managed to KO him with two completely undefended head kicks.
Nate does ok because of 2 things, his high level of fitness and ability to wade through punches and keep brawling. He is like the Homer Simpson of MMA. I’ve always wondered why he gets praised for his boxing when as you say, he’s sloppy and slaps rather than punching to do real damage.
His long levers for arms give his punches a little snap but I think your assessment is right. He’s never won a title and guys who have pushed him like Masvidal have won easily.
If he was to fight Stephen Thompson, I think he’d be exposed badly. Nate has reach in the lightweight division and is tall. In higher weight classes he’d get beaten on a regular basis.
McGregor should easily beat him if they fight again as Conor actually learns and improves with every fight. It’s only his hard head that got him through the 2nd fight, Even Conor said he has a head made of concrete. I honestly can’t see Nate beating a top level boxer.
I agree on all fronts. This was the first fight where Connor gave up reach, and he still beat the crap out of him for 4.25 rounds out of 4.3 of the fight that he lost.

Great Breakdown on Nate’s fighting style and it sounds a bit like you’re calling him out lol.
I would come out of retirement and lose 30 pounds for this.

Can’t argue with that criticism. I guess the reason he’s able to compete at that level is his reach, endurance and ability to take a punch.

Great break down. Nate’s striking technique is truly cringe worthy ! Keep up the great work.
Don’t go-a-changing, Trav. Keep up the great work.
