The long and short of it is, when you don’t have kicks to focus on, you can refine extra things like head movement. And basic things like a slip to the left or a slip to the right can lead you right into a kick, if you’re fighting someone who whips roundhouses to the head regularly (which both of these guys were). U-Slips or ‘rolls’ are actually safer, but again… the game becomes slightly more limited, especially when your weight needs to be on your back leg, in order to defend low kicks.
