Is this video from 2010? If so then he would have only been doing bjj for a year? And he’s going up against one of the best guys in the world. Of course he’s going to be out classed. It would be like if they went to their feet and going tds only, I’m sure things would look a lot different.
What I noticed about the video was how gentle the two guys were. A bit of a funny statement I know but I have done a little BJJ over the years and now being nearly 60 most the sessions ended up with the guy you are rolling with trying to rip your head off. So I had to give up. I have to earn a living. As for the guy who is strictly self-defence. You need BJJ or wrestling in your self-defence big time. I used to teach self-defence (too busy working) and my thoughts are. If you end up on the floor in a self-defence situation you have F**Ked up. So you need BJJ or some grappling arts so you can get back on your feet ASAP.
God forbid you end in a pub fight, the friends of the guy your rolling around the floor with, will be soon tap dancing on your head if you don’t get off that floor.
I can see why you like it. Neither of them wanted to lose. Marcello really exploiting the aggressive style that is inherent to wrestling. He had him dialed in, redirecting all that aggression into sweeps or transitions into submissions. That’s why he never got tired. It’s beautiful to watch at that level.
I especially like how he repositions to sink his jokes. When he nailed the Guillotine right off the bat from the half, most would have tried to pull full or grapevine to sink it. The fact that he rolled him to mount in order to sink a better *Guillotine* is phenomenal. 9 times out of 10 you lose the choke or miss the sweep. Awesome display of what BJJ can do..
