“Could their conclusions be false?”
“Could they have observed these drills under a limited consideration?”
Fact 2 – Funker like flow drills.
“..they are foundation builders that are designed to be skilled at all experience levels”
Fact 3 – Your video is NOT adressing flow drills.
You talk about specific techniques – especially disarming.
Conclusion – Funker is questioning something that was NOT in your video.
In some way he was affended and had to make a point about it.
He even used a third person to support his point.
He made a 10 min long video about it and posted it on the tube.
Or, he is not affended. Only using you as stepping stone (turd) in his marketing.
What gives?
Of course you should ask him what he is doing and why he did this.
While you are at it you could ask him what Jared has to do with all this.
Interesting that Jared Wihongi is used in Funkers video.
Surely, Jared is aware of that he is being used in the video.
My guess is that this is an attempt to do some marketing of both Funker and Jared.
It did not came out so well though.
A funny thing. If we try to interpret his text note to the video.
“The world of knife defense is packed with the dumbest techniques in all of martial arts.”
“Maybe…or maybe such an observation may be flawed to begin with.
It looks like he might be under the impression that the knife defense world could be full of smart and good techiques…
If Funker has that impression – does the same go for Jared?
And by the way. Anybody know what his name is. Could not find that information anywhere.
So over 9mins of video saying the flow drills prepare you for the real thing and the only real speed un-choreographed footage he could show was 8 seconds at 8:05 that didn’t show any of the Kali techniques actually working. So the question begs, if he had footage of those guys in the masks pulling off a disarm, 5 step limb destruction, or winding take down, then why didn’t he show it?
Yeah… there is more than one way to knife fight a cat. Travis isn’t wrong. Training tactically isn’t wrong either. The best course of action is to invite the FT guys to test Travis’s concepts out and report back. I’m sure we’d all like to know. And grow. And go fight some knife cats.
Ok, I understand what this guy says and it’s true, but like you said Trav, in order to find out if a technique really works, you have to train as close to 100% realism as possible, that means the attacker attacking at full speed and power. Also resisting 100%, not cooperating or making it easier for the defender to execute the defense technique. That means retracting the arm back fast and continuing to attack. If the defender is able to neutralize the knife attack under this condition, like it would happen in real life, then you could say that the technique has a high probability of being effective, since nothing is 100% guaranteed to work.
speaking from personal experience, the only person who benefits in this drama is Funker Tactical, aka Paulo Rubio. This is what he does, criticize and stir up drama in order to self promote. Honestly the best thing you can do is let it go and ignore him. You should take it as a point of pride, he seems to go after people who actually have skill and ability.
So full disclosure, I’ve got Trav’s full program and think his knife stuff is the best I’ve ever seen. I’ve also got a fourth degree brown belt in Arnis (aka escrima). The problem I see in this video is the same one I saw during my time training arnis. The attacks are these big exaggerated movements that are nothing like what you see in actual knife attack footage. The attacker almost goes off balance without the defender doing anything. It’s the knife equivalent of throwing a punch and leaving your arm hanging out there while the other guy Kung fus you to death. So for me, I’ll go with Trav’s stuff for knife defense. Just my two cents.
I wouldn’t say that they were calling you out. It looks like what you are both doing is similar. IE: you are analyzing the fight just like they are and working through it.
I don’t think Funker is refuting Trav’s criticisms of many of the current knife fighting techniques. If anything they’re backing up Trav’s points but saying it differently. At no time during their video do knives magically fly out of anyone’s hands by slapping the hand or blade away. They are working on blocking and control and are emphasizing practice and repetition which are two of the most important aspects of any martial technique.

EXACTLY! Thank you. Normally i ignore criticism, but i can’t just let someone put arguments in my mouth.

So this knife defence for military?
I thought the military taught out soldiers to use their M-4’s against a knife attack.

I think y’all should hook up for a demonstration. His partners look a little willing to me
