"Emanuel Augustus was my toughest opponent thus far, and... you know... his record didn't show his skill set, but the guy was unbelievable."
-Floyd Mayweather
Today, I have possibly the best video that I've ever shared in the history of Fight Smart.
It contains all of my favorite things in life:
1. Dancing. I love to shake mah booty (though not usually in the middle of a ruckus)
2. Unbelievable displays of skill and technique
3. Absolute comfort in the face of peril and physical harm.
Emanuel Augustus is frequently referred to as "The most robbed boxer in the history of the sport."
The judges didn't like him, because he danced in the ring. They found it to be 'disrespectful to the sport'...
He did not care.
In reality, Augustus's style demonstrated some of the most amazing elusive ability I've ever seen, and presented absolute freedom of movement.
One moment, he's having fun... then next he's punching faces or slipping a haymaker.
I DREAM OF FIGHTING LIKE THIS.
It is the essence of being a 'Drunken Master': allowing one movement to flow into the next.
No thinking... just flowing. Aggressively.
At times, he would stomp forward, alternating stances as his groove required, perfectly comfortable in any position, and let the carnage spring forth from his hands.
...hands which he often held down by his sides. Because he felt like it.
No one has ever done this better in real combat, while simultaneously winning world titles.
And then,
If you'd like to see a more 'serious' display of his amazing skill-set, you can watch this highlight reel as well.
The New Year is coming my friend...
Let's find our internal Emanuel Augustus, and let him break free.
I hope your holidays have been packed with love and happiness. Enjoy!
