  1. Power depends on how fast you can lock out and drive with your hips. The secret to an effective power jab and some other strikes is to throw your arm as loose and fast as you can and wait until impact to lock out and drive your hips to transfer momentum. That’s why Bruce Lee practiced the one-inch punch but didn’t use it in fights. He was learning to lock out and torque his hips quickly over a short distance (the end of a power jab). It uses less energy and front loads a punch with speed that your hips catch up with and use at the last second before impact. It’s a harder technique to master than a haymaker.

  2. Rel good lessons. He had a unorthodox style, but the explanations really make sense. I want to try it myself.

  3. Awesome stuff Trav. I really like Bas’s theatrical methods. It’s also super nice of you plugging Shane Fazen’s video/channel

  4. Good, BUT, in our style, we kick the groin! Full power. If Bas wanted to get the extension and power in his backhand, from the leg back stance, all he had to do was shift his hips and bring his back leg forward to a position like you use!

  5. Well grounded, and nothing says I love you like an elbow to the foot. Zone blocking with the elbows is a must learn for everyone. Just my opinion.
