Bas Rutten's MMA Fighting Style

I encourage you to be inspired.

Here's the comment section...

Humans like to talk about things.

  • Very good stuff. The point about the reach of the rear hand being increased by being more square, good. But I think the forgotten element is the pivoting of the rear foot on the ball, as well as, sliding it up during the execution. Bas’ foot was flat and square.

  • Hey Trav, this is cool as fuck!
Why is that, you may ask?
    Answer:
Because Shane is my other online coach. Between the two of you, I’ve picked up a ton of very usable information. (I purchase exclusively from you Trav, U R #1)
Much respect for Bas. When he talks, I listen…
    Cheers!

  • As an amateur, I love the science. This example of premeditated assault is a treasure of style and coherent structure. Some people have gifts and people have them in various skill sets. I have an engineering vision; I can look at a mechanical issue and a solution will appear, but this man’s gift is to see what appears to be obvious options to specific movements, or positions. After his example, I can see the common sense initiation, of an attack, or defense, but only after his very structured and coherent explanation. What I mean is everything was a blur, like tapioca, then he explained the details, so even I could see the science. He’s a gift.

  • Not by any means questioning the Bas here! But I was taught to hammer-fist instead of back fist for two reasons: 1 – it positions the hard part of your elbow towards the opponent, in case he stepped in while your back was turned and 2 – the carpals/metacarpals are tiny bones and much less likely to break with a hammer fist to the skull than a back fist. Thoughts?
