Nice simple technique. Can you make it work against a much bigger opponent? I’m 5’4″, 133 lbs for example (and unfortunately don’t often get to spar smaller people or even people my size)
Depends on how strong your ‘hook’ is (the leg that lifts the guy to sweep). I probably wouldn’t do a sacrifice throw like this against someone much larger, unless I had a great ground game.
I know mechanics are involved but what about if the guy resist. The opponent here comes down with the coach because his center of gravity is being pulled down but what about if there is resistance. I believe in hitting to get cooperation from the opponent and then apply grabbling. What do you think? Thank you for sharing Master Travis! I’m one of your loyal followers and customer as well.
You don’t pull guard in Judo, Steve, because it’s not advantageous in the sport… nor does being in ‘full mount’ really help you when the ref gives you ten seconds to choke people before standing you back on your feet so that someone can ‘win’ with a throw. In Judo, you’re only allowed elbow locks and chokes… thus invalidating 80% of the body that you’re allowed to attack in BJJ.
I snicker too Steve… at every judoka that I’ve tapped out from flat on my back because your BJJ is so terrible. Nice throws though.

I’d advise a good no-gi lock at neck shoulder height as a prequel, like Andrade on Lemos in last week’s UFC. Makes the flip with the legs easier.
Trav, one day, your knowledge will save my bacon.

If he resists you could move into a tripod sweep in the opposite direction… or just pull harder!
Got it! Simple but effective!
when in doubt… pull harder haha
The judo gods snicker.
